Memory
Upgrade
and Diagnostic Service
Do you have
any of the following problems?
-
Slow
running applications or slow overall performance.
If you do not have enough memory, then your computer
is constantly reading and writing to the swap file
on your hard drive. Since a hard drive is much
slower than RAM, this creates a bottleneck
which dramatically slows the performance of your
computer.
-
Poorly
matched memory modules can also cause slow
performance. Many
motherboards have been demonstrated to work reliably
only with certain memory modules. If you use a
module that is not on the motherboard manufacturer's
hardware compatibility list, performance may
dramatically slow down. In addition, if a memory
module is added which is of a slower speed than
existing modules, all of the modules will slow down
to the speed of the slowest module. Lastly, many
motherboards feature dual-channel mode, which
doubles memory throughput to the processor. If the
memory modules are not compatible, many motherboards
will not run in dual channel mode.
-
Your
computer is freezing or giving memory errors: Your
memory modules may have been damaged by ESD
(Electrostatic Discharge) or a voltage surge. ESD
damage is usually caused by not wearing a
wrist-strap or using a grounding mat. If your memory
modules are damaged, they should be replaced.
My
Service Includes:
-
Memory
Testing using diagnostic software. If any
modules are damaged, they will be replaced.
-
Consulting
motherboard specifications to determine
the best memory available for your motherboard. I
will determine the maximum amount of memory and the
highest speed memory your motherboard permits.
-
Parts
sold at cost. I purchase memory modules
as needed from a discount parts retailer. I sell to
you at my cost, with no markup. I provide you with
the receipt so that you are covered by the
manufacturer's warranty. There is no charge for the
time required to pickup the parts.
-
Observance
of ESD safety precautions:
Electrostatic
Discharge, or ESD,
can damage memory.
Merely shuffling one's feet on carpet while handling
a RAM module can cause ESD damage! Since ESD damage
can also build with time, a careless technician
could damage your RAM and you not even know it -
until it fails months later. I follow proper safety
precautions and use grounding wrist straps and
antistatic pads to prevent electric potential from
building up between myself and your valuable
computer equipment.
-
Same
